When Dimple Met Rishi page 1-96

The book “When Dimple Met Rishi" takes place in modern time I suspect. It is written by Sandhya Menon. This books is about a girl named Dimple who is born into a middle class Indian family and is expected to go to college and find a husband to marry. However, when Dimple gets accepted into the college of her dreams she thinks that maybe her parents have eased a little. Although Dimple's family still seems set on sending her to College, they talk about about how she should go into engineering because thats what all the good boys go into.

Dimple begins a summer program called Insomnia Con at  the SFSU campus. She is so excited because it is a web completion that will help her prepare for Stanford. When Dimple arrives, she soon meets Rishi. Rishi is sweet and charming, ready for love and life. He is there to meet Dimple because they are to have an arranged marriage. Dimple did not know about this and is livid when she finds out. Rishi is afraid of Dimple it seems but still tries to win her over, even though all she wants is to develop a web quest!

Later in the story, Dimple and Rishi are (of course) paired to do their Insomnia Con project together. Dimple wants nothing to do with Rishi except for working on a project, but it seems as if Rishi is still infatuated with trying to win her over. They begin a friendship that is not based on a forced marriage but them learning about each other, For example, Rishi loves comics and Dimple find his work fascinating. I think Rishi admired Dimpl's fire and passion for Insomnia Con so he puts his best foot forward, not just because he wants her as his wife. Dimple soon finds out that Rishi and her actually do get a long and he has a strong personality. One night they go out to dinner with Dimple's "zombie" friends. Rishi pays for the whole thing anonymously because Dimple cannot afford, and they both realize that they feel the same about stuck snobby white people!!
