Reality Check

The story Reality Check by Peter Abrahams takes place in a small little county in Colorado.
It starts off with Cody ́s last day of sophomore year with plans of spending the whole summer with
his girlfriend Clea. Cody who is a starting varsity quarterback for his high school had a pretty rough
school year in terms of his grades barely passing all of his classes with all D's and one C-. However
Cody doesn't really care about this since he is used to receiving these grades as he has no care for
school and all he really cares about is playing football. His girlfriend Clea on the other hand is the
complete opposite of Cody with straight Aś in all advanced classes and is a very talented equestrian.
Cody and Cleas summer starts off pretty well with them hanging out together and going on dates for
about a week, until she gets some bad news from her dad. Her dad says she is going to study abroad
in Tokyo with her uncle for the next month. Clea was sad that her summer plans with Cody were ruined
but was also pretty excited to go to Tokyo as she has never gone to a different country before. They
spent the next month emailing each other back and forth telling each other what's going on in there lives.
When Clea comes back from Japan, everything goes back to normal until Clea gets even more bad
news. Her dad is sending her to a fancy boarding school across the country in Dover, Vermont.
Cody and Clea were both very sad about this when all of a sudden Cody just could not take it anymore
and ends up breaking up with Clea. Cody realizes this was a huge mistake but unfortunately can't
really do anything about it. Meanwhile school starts back up again but more importantly football does.
On his first football game of the year Cody runs in for the game winning touchdown however it came
at a cost as the player from the opposing team made a cheap shot at him after he already scored and
ended up spraining his knee. Cody just can't catch a break as he stays home from school the next
day he watches the news to only find out that Clea has gone missing after going on a horse ride at
her new school in Vermont.
As I started reading this book I got hooked right away. After the first chapter it felt like so much
already happened like Clea finding out that she had to go to Japan. I liked that the author did this
because usually when a book starts off too slow I have no desire to keep reading. I also liked
how Cody truly cared about Clea when she went missing that even though they broke up
Cody drove across the country just to have the slim chance of seeing her again.
