Challenger Deep
Blog #2
Challenger Deep vlog pages 71-200. Caden now has fallen into a sort of mental illness in the book, before Caden didn’t know what was wrong with him and that was his reasoning to take a trip to the Mariana Trench. While on the ship Caden realizes that he truly is mentally ill and needs help, as he is struggling greatly. Callie and Carlyle, or two of the crew members meet Caden and try find the heart of his mental illness. As they move closer and closer to the trench Caden starts to emerge from this mental illness and become a happy normal 15 year old boy again.
After starting to thrive Caden soons falls back into his illness as his closest friend Callie is fired for being blamed for someone's suicide. This book teaches how mental illness is affecting Caden and shows how it affects people in general. Caden keeps emerging from his illness and then sinking back into it, but overall the theme is about how mental illness truly affects people
Soon after continuing to read this book it became much more understandable and was easy to identify the theme or message being sent. I still dislike how there is a constant switching between home life and ship life, It is almost like a constant switching between two worlds. Overall the book as gripped me at this point and is getting better and better.
