IT by Steven King

I am reading IT by Steven King, a horror story about an evil dancing clown named Pennywise who terrorizes and kills members of the town of Berry, Maine. The novel alternates between two different time periods, the 1958 story of the young children known as "The Losers" and how they take down Pennywise, and in 1985 where "The Losers" are all now grown up and have to deal with the return of the evil clown. The story interweaves the two time periods, switching between them each chapter, and relating many of the same themes to each one.
In chapter one of IT by Steven King, the town of Berry, Maine is terrorized by the acts of a dancing killer clown named Pennywise. The story begins in the home of five year old Georgie Denbrough, and his older brother Bill. Bill helps Georgie make a paper boat to float outside in the streams of water on the road from the heavy rain. Bill is sick in bed, and Georgie goes out on his own to play with the boat, and it floats into a storm drain. Georgie goes to try and get it, and meets Pennywise the dancing clown, who offers him his boat back along with a balloon. When Georgie accepts and attempt to reach down in the gutter to grab the items, the clown rips off Georgies arm completely. Georgie is dead, his parents are devastated. This story is played out in the 1958 part of the story, as we see how the unlikely group of young teenagers dubbed losers, come together and defeat Pennywise.
Pennywise continues his evil attack on the residents of Berry, preying on the weak and helpless to help fuel him, after coming back in the 1985 part of the story, the group is reunited by a phone call, and they all realize what they must do to save Berry.

  1. This is a very interesting book. It seems to be scary and kind of funny at the same time. Why is Pennywise so angry at the ¨The Losers¨, or the children? I am interested to find out what happens next.
