The Book Four (A Divergent Collection) Blog #1 p. 3-97

The Book Four (A Divergent Collection) Blog #1

In the book Four (A Divergent Collection) by Veronica Roth is told from the Four's (Tobias)  point of view. I have read from pages 3-97 and mostly it explains the character of Four and his father (Marcus). His father is not a nice man; he hits him and abuse him. Four lives in a world where the society is divided into five factions. The factions are Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the kind), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), and Candor (the honest). Everyone who is turns into sixteen must  choose a section and commit to it for life. Two years before Beatrice Prior (the girl in Divergent) made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation's faction leader did the same. In Dauntless, he will not be called Tobias the name his parents gave him, but instead he will be called Four. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child.

Four goes through a aptitude test and Tori (the tattooed girl) tells him that the test tells them Abnegation. He returns to his home-not-so-sweet-home where he gets smacked around by his abusive father (Marcus) and realizes that he needs to get out of Abnegation. At the Choosing Ceremony, Four chooses Dauntless instead of Abnegation because he wants to escape from his father. Four's transfer to Dauntless is another chance for him to begin again in his life. In Dauntless you have to fight for yourself and prove to the leaders that you are strong enough to survive enough in this community. To enter the community you have to jump into a pit, which is really deep and dark that you can't even see where you will land. This is kind of your first test to prove to the leaders and whoever goes first will be seen as a strongest person from all of them. Four was the last person in the line to jump which proved that he was scared and not confident enough to jump first in the pit. After entering the Dauntless he finds out that he is a Divergent and he has to hide that from everyone because if anybody finds out that he is a Divergent, the leaders will kill him. They would not let Divergent's live in the community because while aptitude test only they can  know that the situations given to you aren't real. They can fight those situations in different ways than others and make impossibles possible. Divergent's are more stronger emotionally, physically, and mentally than others and the leaders think that they can't handle them so they kill them.

This book seemed interesting to me because I have seen the Divergent movie and Four was the kind of character that stood out to me. I really wanted to read this book for a long time and I really liked the way they describe the things from Four's point of view. The thing that I liked the most about this book is that they explain the struggles of Four, how he survived their, and how he became so strong from a man who was the last one to jump into the pit. This book sets up a really good story in your mind and the words are easy to understand.
