After Stella and Will become closer and closer to each other, Will realizes that he does, in fact, have major feelings for each other, but their sickness makes it so they can never be with each other. In fact, they have to be 6 feet apart at all times. Will continues to watch Stella's vlogs and realizes that her sister Abby stopped appearing in her videos about a year ago. Will finds out Abby passed away in a diving accident a year ago and confronts Stella about it. Stella becomes angry and shuts Will out of her life for a couple weeks because she can't deal with how Will was so assertive with how he approached Stella. Stella realizes that cystic fibrosis has taken so much from her life that she wants to take something back. She posts a video saying that instead of six feet keeping her and Will apart, she steals a foot and makes her new limit five feet. Will watches the video and realizes what Stella is saying. He gets a text saying the two have a date at the hospital tonight. Poe helps Stella find a pool cue to keep the distance between the two apart. Holding on to each other through the pool cue, they two go to the pool and strip for each other and end up swimming around until late at night. At this moment, Stella and Will both realize they want what they can never have. The next day, Stella sets up a scavenger hunt for Will for his 18th birthday. At the end of the scavenger hunt, Stella holds a dinner inviting all of their friends. At this dinner, Poe confesses that he is going back to for his boyfriend Micheal because he doesn't want cystic fibrosis to take anything from him either.  During the dinner, Barb, one of the nurses, finds the party and decides to send Will away for being too close to Stella. Heartbroken, everyone goes back to their rooms where Will and Stella realize they may never see each other again. While separated, Poe passes away in his room and Stella was there to see it. While she is sobbing and crying Will reaches out and tries to hug Stella. Stella freaks out and realizes what Will just did, the two go back to their rooms, unaware of how they actually feel.
In this section of the story, it's the climax of the story. Stella and Will are madly in love with each other and they show it to each other. The pool cue that was used on the date was their form of touch and when they strip for each other, it's almost as if they are touching each other and in that moment, they realize how madly in love they are. Stella comes around and for a few moments of her life, she forgets she's sick and she actually lives her life. But in a moment, everything comes crashing down for her. I loved this part of the book because it shows just how brutal life can be. You think that everything is fine but in a moment it all goes away.
