Your chance to rant, rave, and talk about the books you are reading. It's obvious we are a family of readers...this is our trainwreck of a dog, Roxy, that my daughter likes to dress up...she is now named "Harry Pooper"

Blog #1 The Giver pages 1-64
I'm reading a novel by Lois Lowery titled The Giver. It takes place in a sort of utopian perfect society. Where everything is the same and all is "perfect".In this society each family is only allowed one girl and one boy there is no exception. Jonas lives with his little sister Lily and their parents. His mother was assigned to the department of justice and his father is a nurturer. As nurturer Jonas's dad cares for all the newborn children but there's one that he's been spending extra time on. His name is Gabriel and he needs more attention so Jonas's dad brought him home to hopefully get him in good health so he won't need to be released. Right now Jonas is about to turn twelve which is where, after years of being observed, you get assigned to your life long job. Lily is about to turn nine which is where they receive their bikes and get to start volunteering at all the different jobs. During the ceremony of the twelve Jonas was skipped bur for a very special reason. He was chosen to be the 2nd ever to be chosen as the giver or the one who knows all.
I chose the section because I felt like it builds the entire story and gives meaning to the title. It shows kind of a backstory on the society they live in and what the expectation is. Like any other story your attention is grabbed by the crazy ways of this society. I love how it's like a way we could live but knowing we cant if that makes any sense. I don't like how there is not much background about how this society came to be.

This book seems very interesting. I say this because I find it interesting about the jobs they are given at such a young age. It makes me want to continue reading and figure out why these jobs are “life long” and so important. I also want to know why Jonah is chosen as the “giver”.
