Your chance to rant, rave, and talk about the books you are reading. It's obvious we are a family of readers...this is our trainwreck of a dog, Roxy, that my daughter likes to dress up...she is now named "Harry Pooper"

Blog #1: One of Us is Lying pg. 1-104
In the novel One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus five students (Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, Cooper, and Simon) are stuck in detention for having their phones in class when they aren't supposed to. Bronwyn is a student who never breaks the rules and is an A+ student. Addy is picture perfect homecoming princess always dressed up nice. Nate deals drugs and is on probation for it. Copper is the all-star athlete baseball pitcher. Lastly, Simon is the outcast of all of them and is the creator of a gossip app at their school (Bayview High school). All of the students try telling Mr. Avery, the lab teacher who put them in detention, that someone had planted phones in their book bags to put them in detention. Mr. Avery didn't believe them, and made the students write a five-hundred word essay on how technology is ruining America's high schools. All the students are confused to why they are in detention because they all have their actual phones in their bag and Mr. Avery has the other phones in the drawer thinking they're their phones. Simon gets up to get a cup of water since his water bottle is missing, and as he gets water, outside the window two cars hit each other. While Mr. Avery was gone all of the students were talking to each other, then all of a sudden Simon complains about his water, then all of a sudden he falls to the floor wheezing. At first the other four thought he was joking until he started to wheeze. As Simon was having an allergic reaction, none of them could find his epipen, looking for it in his book bag, and pockets. Mr. Avery and another teacher come running in with the sound of sirens also. Cooper went to the nurses office to see if he could find Simon's epipen, but there were none there. As paramedics race in they injected a syringe into Simon and put him on a stretcher, brought him to the hospital and it was too late to save him and Simon is dead.
After the death of Simon, the other four students began to get questioned by the principle and the cops. During school the next day the principle brought them to the office one by one, also giving each of them one-on-one counseling. All four students are sent to the office and are told by Officer Budapest that the cup Simon drank out of had traces of peanut oil, in which Simon is allergic to. One day when Nate had his phone out texting a girl, before he put his phone away he got a text from his friend with a link that opens to a Tumblr page with the name "About This". On the Tumblr page it had a message from the person who killed Simon and why he did it. Officers tried to trace where the message came from but it was unknown and wasn't to be found. Then, at the ceremony for Simon at the school, a girl showed Cooper another message on the Tumblr that the person who killed Simon left. The message left was about what they did in order to get Simon to drink out of the cup in the classroom with peanut oil. During Simon's funeral an officer asked Nate talk to him. Also, a detective asked Addy to go to the police station (right near the funeral) and answer some questions about Simons death. While Addy and Detective Wheeler were in a room at the police station, Detective Wheeler brought up a post that Simon was going to post the next day (after the day he died if he was still alive), and the post was about Addy, Bronwyn, Cooper and Nate. Addy's post was about how she cheated on her boyfriend, Bronwyn's was about how she cheated to get good grades in chemistry, Nate's was how he was still selling drugs, and Cooper's post was about how he was enhanced during a showcase. Cooper was also showed this post that wasn't posted. After Addy goes to talk to her boyfriend about what happened at the police station and told him that she cheated on him.
In this portion of the book I liked how fast reading it was and how much I wanted to keep reading to find out what will happen. This section had a lot of building up in it, that'll keep being built into the next section of the book. I also like how it has the students from detention as the narrators, telling their point of view of what happened in detention, while also having their lives tied into it.
