Blog #2 chapters 9-17

At the beginning of chapter 9, riots are occurring in garden heights. Starr and her family are at home about to sit down for dinner when they hear gunshots. Starrs mother tells the kids to go into the living room which is the only room that doesn’t have an outside wall. They watch the TV and see the riots occurring in garden heights on the news. Starr realizes now that other people than just her care about Kahlil's death. Star is invited to go to the Just us for justice headquarters. She is greeted by Ms. Ofrah. Ms. Ofrah explains what will happen. The case will be presented to the district attorney's office to decide if whether or not officer 115 will be arrested. Ms. Ofrah uses the word murder to describe Khalil's death. Now Starr feels empowered to stand up for what is right.
In these chapters, I like how Starr feels more and more empowered to stand up for what is right. In this chapter, Starr is also encountered with many conflicts. I like the fact that the author brings in the fact that Starrs family may not be on board with her having a white boyfriend. I also like how she talks about how Starrs friend Hailey has used words that made Starr feel objectified. I like this because it brings up problems that are very current and that are happening in the present.
