In chapters 21-48 in To All the Boys I've Loved Before, the story takes a surprising turn. Allow me to catch you up on the details. Lara Jean wrote these love letters explaining how she felt about each boy. She never intended for the letters to get out but somehow they did and now she not only has to deal with Peter, she has to deal with Margot's ex boyfriend, Josh, as well.
Peter is talking to Lara Jean about what she wrote in the letter when she sees Josh coming over,. She ends up kissing Peter in order to hide from Josh. Lara Jean then proceeds to tell Josh that Peter is her boyfriend, even though he isn't. Lara Jean tries to tell Josh that they "broke up" but then he brings up that Peter was at the book store and told Josh that he really likes her. She tries to get answers but he refuses to crack. Instead Peter brings up the fact that Gen, Peter's ex, not knowing what's going on with them is driving her nuts. Peter then asks Lara Jean out but not in a romantic way, it's in a devious way. She says she is not interested and so is Peter but he has a plan. He does not want to be tied down by Gen and if Lara Jean and Peter are together, she will get the message that it is over between them. Lara Jean has her doubts about it but eventually she agrees. The plan works perfectly, they go to parties, post pictures together, and walk the halls together to show Gen things are over. A few months go by and they attend a ski resort trip for school. Lara Jean starts to have real feeling for Peter but she is afraid to tell him. Eventually he reciprocates those feelings for her. There are rumors going around that they slept together in the Jacuzzi but they didn't and Peter is not speaking up in fear of looking bad in front of his friends. She distances herself from Peter over Christmas break and she has no idea how things are going to pan out with their fake relationship.
Your chance to rant, rave, and talk about the books you are reading. It's obvious we are a family of readers...this is our trainwreck of a dog, Roxy, that my daughter likes to dress up...she is now named "Harry Pooper"

I think it's interesting how the author decided to put an unexpected plot, which most readers probably didn't think of.
